A divyang youth from Sikkim sustained grievous injuries after he was allegedly hit by a traffic cop at Gopalpur in Ganjam. The cop has been accused of hitting directly on his head, rendering him unconscious.

The injured, identified as Wegen Sherpa, has been admitted to Bhubaneswar AIIMS where his condition remains critical, sources said. 

According to sources, Sherpa lives with his friends in Balugaon. Sunday being a holiday, Sherpa along with his friends planned to visit Gopalpur sea beach. The friends were on their way home after their fun trip to Gopalpur when they were intercepted by traffic cops.

Suddenly, a traffic cop allegedly hit Sherpa with his lathi, rendering him critical, sources informed.

“Today was a holiday and we had come on a fun trip to Gopalpur. We had all the fun and were returning home when we were intercepted by the cops. However, one of the cops hit my friend directly on his head. He is critically injured and vomited blood. He has been senseless for three hours,” alleged a friend.

No comments could be obtained from the traffic cops or Berhampur police in this connection.
