Buoyed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) thumping win in the Assembly elections to Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, party’s State unit president Manmohan Samal claimed BJP will see promising results in the 2024 general elections in Odisha too.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Samal on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highest popularity rating in Odisha and it will definitely reflect in the next elections.

This apart, Samal targeted the State government alleging mass corruption in almost every department. “This government neither has eyes nor ears. Nearly Rs 19 lakh crores sent by the Central government to Odisha in the last nine years was not spend wisely to bring desirable results. No infrastructure development has been done. Tourism, irrigation and industries sectors are underdeveloped. Almost 1.5 crore youths have migrated to other states to work,” Samal said.

Taking a dig at former bureaucrat VK Pandian joining BJD, Samal said, “We are particularly concerned about the huge amount of public money spent on searching for an heir to the BJD. Rs 300 crore was spent on chopper ride and Rs 500 crore on carrying people to the meeting places,” Samal alleged.

“It seems that the BJD has failed to understand the religious sentiment of Odias. The actual amount of jewellery inside the Ratna Bhandar has remained a million-dollar question so far. The government is in no mood to reopen the Ratna Bhandar even after court order. This is the most insensitive government I have ever seen,” he added.

“Result in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh is just a trailer. The BJD will see the full movie in 2024 elections,” Samal said.

Comments of the BJD leaders could not be obtained on the allegations of the BJP.
