Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion of ‘Raja’ Parba and prayed for the good health, prosperity and happiness of all.

In a tweet, PM Modi said, “Greetings on the ongoing Raja Parba festivities being held across Odisha. May this auspicious period bring with it an abundance of good health and prosperity. May there be happiness all around.”

PM Modi’s tweet spread cheer among Odias who took to the comment section and thanked the PM.

“Warm wishes for a joyous Raja Parba celebration in Odisha! May this auspicious time bless you with good health, prosperity, and boundless happiness. Let the festive spirit fill every heart with joy and create beautiful memories to cherish,” commented a user.

Another user wrote, “During this period, it is believed that Bhudevi (earth) menstruates during this period and prepares herself for future agricultural activities.'Raja' is derived from the word 'Rajaswala' which means menstruating women. Each and every woman is compared with the Bhudevi.”

A third user commented, “A beautiful traditional of India. All feel good on festivals our beloved PM never forgets such auspicious occasions.” 

The three-day Raja festival is being celebrated with pomp and gaiety across Odisha. Visuals of young girls and women celebrating Raja from across Odisha are a sight to behold. Women clad in beautiful dresses and sarees of resplendent colours and traditional attires are seen enjoying up to the hilt.

Swings adorned with flowers and mango leaves are set up both in urban and rural areas. The aromas of special delicacies especially ‘Poda Pitha’ and other traditional sweets have filled the air.
