The registration process for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) will officially close on May 15, informed Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Naik on Tuesday. With just two day remaining for the deadline, the Minister urged all eligible individuals to complete their registrations without delay.

According to the minister, between 34 to 35 lakh people have already registered under the central government’s flagship rural housing scheme aimed at providing "Housing for All". The scheme targets beneficiaries from economically weaker sections, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, and other disadvantaged groups.

Survey After Deadline Ends

The Minister further added that after the registration window closes, government teams will conduct door-to-door surveys to identify eligible beneficiaries who may have missed registering. This survey, set to begin post 15th May, will help the department ensure that no deserving household is left out of the final beneficiary list.

Highlighting existing infrastructure challenges, the minister noted that roofing for nearly 3 lakh houses constructed under the PMAY scheme is completed and some minor work is pending along delays and logistical issues. In addition, over 500 locations across the state are still grappling with road connectivity problems, affecting accessibility to housing sites and delaying construction progress.

The Panchayati Raj department has also indicated that corrective measures are being planned in coordination with local administrations to resolve these pending issues. Minister Naik assured that the government is committed to improving rural infrastructure and fulfilling the vision of pucca houses for every poor family.

As the registration period nears its end, officials have been instructed to assist last-minute applicants at panchayat offices and ensure that the process is completed smoothly. The government also plans to expedite housing approvals and fund disbursements once the registration and survey processes are completed. Citizens eligible for the scheme are urged to make use of this final opportunity to register and secure a better housing future under PMAY.
