Plus-2 students of Sarankul college in Nayagarh met the Sub-Collector on Wednesday alleging ragging by some students and the Principal of the college.

The students alleged that the Principal forced them to take admission in a particular coaching centre in the town, where some of the college lecturers are teaching too. And when the students rejected the particular coaching centre, the Principal allegedly instigated some senior students to rag the juniors.

“We were going to the coaching centre earlier but decided to not go anymore after the quality of coaching went down. The lecturers became vengeful and instigated other students to beat us,” alleged a student.

However, the Principal denied the allegations. Speaking over the phone, Principal of Sarankul college, Basant Rath said, “The allegations are false. I do not have anything to say on this.”

Asked about the complaint, Nayagarh sub-collector, Shaktikanta Ray said, “Around 24 students of Sarankul college and their parents came to meet me and complained that they have been subjected to ragging in the college. The principal too did not help them. I have accepted their representation. I will conduct an enquiry, and take appropriate action as per the report."
