Body of a Plus 2 girl student was found hanging from a fan inside the hostel at Rama Devi Women’s University in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Pragyan Mohanty, a student of Plus 2 second-year Arts.
Though the exact reason behind her death is not yet ascertained, it is believed that Pragyan was under mental stress from her studies.
The police have also seized a suicide note from the spot which also read that the victim was under stress.
“From the preliminary investigation, it is found that the student was under severe stress from her studies and went into depression. This might have led her to take the extreme step,” said Sanjeev Satpathy, ACP Zone-5.
Meanwhile, the principal said, Pragyan, who used to stay at the college hostel, was under pressure for last couple of days.
“Pragyan had appeared in all the papers in the Plus 2 examination. She did well in the examination. But, she was disturbed for the last couple of days. A hand note has been recovered from the spot,” said Urmila Das, a lecturer of the college.
