Petronet LNG to set up 50,000 MT terminal in Gopalpur as part of Odisha's Rs 98,880cr investment

Petronet LNG Ltd (PLL) will establish a 50,000 MT land-based LNG terminal at Gopalpur Port in the Ganjam district, marking its first such facility on the country’s east coast. The project is part of the Rs 98,880 crore investment deals secured by the state during a recently concluded two-day Investors’ Meet in New Delhi, underscoring Odisha’s push to expand energy infrastructure.

The terminal, initially planned to be a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) with 4 MMTPA capacity, has now been transitioned to a 5 MMTPA land-based setup, enhancing India’s regasification capabilities.

95,915 Jobs to Fuel Odisha’s Growth

Notably, the state signed 13 MoUs and 15 investment intents at the summit, promising employment for 95,915 people, with Petronet’s project and allied industries playing a pivotal role.

Among the key projects, IOCL’s Dual-Feed Naphtha Cracker Project in Paradip of Jahatsinghput district alone will bring in investments of over Rs 58,042 crore, generating employment for 24,000 people.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the state’s employment focus and job creation as a priority. It is worth noting that beyond energy, investments in chemicals, textiles, shipbuilding, and medical devices will drive employment.

State Guarantees Swift Land Allocation

To fast-track projects, the Odisha government pledged to allocate land within fixed timelines as 30 acres in 30 days, 50 acres in 50 days, and 100 acres in 100 days. CM Majhi assured investors and stated that this was the right time to be in Odisha and that the state was ready to host the growing aspirations of its population.
