The Odisha government so far has received petitions seeking district tags to 25 new places in the State, said Revenue Minister Sudam Marndi in a written reply to a query of BJP MLA Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday. 

As per the Revenue Minister’s reply, petitions for a maximum of four new districts have been received from Ganjam district alone. They are Ghumusar, Rushikulya, Berhampur and Bhanjanagar. 

Similarly, petitions have been received to create West Mayurbhanj, Rairangpur and Khiching in Mayurbhanj as new districts. 
From Angul district, petitions have been received to give district status to Talcher, Pallahara and Athamalik. 

The other places for which petitions have been received for district status are Padampur (Bargarh), Dharmagarh (Kalahandi), Bonai and Rourkela (Sundargarh), Titlagarh and Kantabanji (Bolangir), Bhubaneswar (Khordha), Chandikhol and Athagarh (Cuttack), Kuchinda (Sambalpur), Baliguda (Kandhamal), Anandapur (Keonjhar), Nilgiri and Soro (Balasore) and Gunupur (Rayagada).
