In a shocking incident, a youth from Jereng village under Angul’s Jarapada police limits tried to commit suicide after losing in an online game.

The youth has been identified as Soumyaranjan Naik.

As per reports, Naik had a habit of playing games online. However, he reportedly lost his mental balance after losing three consecutive games.

Frustrated by the losses, he reportedly tried to commit suicide by slitting his own throat by a razor.

An injured Naik was rushed to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be stable.

Speaking about the incident, a local of Jereng village said, “He was playing FIFA game in online mode. He got agitated after losing multiple rounds of the game.”

“Following his attempt to take his own life at around 4 pm yesterday, we brought him to the hospital at around 7pm. The doctors treated him and he is stable now,” he said.

Online gaming has become extremely popular in recent years, attracting a large number of users and generating substantial revenue. However, this rapid growth has raised concerns about the potential negative effects of certain types of online games.

Taking this into account, the Indian government has introduced a new set of rules for online gaming. The government has banned three types of online games that involve gambling, betting, and addictive gameplay.
