At least two persons were killed while three others suffered serious wounds in a series of road accidents involving a SUV and five motorcycles in Boudh district on Thursday morning.

As per initial reports, the mishap occurred at Bahira Chhak when the SUV bearing registration number OD03Q7779 was en route to Bhubaneswar from Bolangir. The SUV crashed into five motorcycles before hitting a roadside hotel. 

The impact of the collisions was so severe that the SUV as well as the motorcycles were badly mangled. 

A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO), who was riding one of the five bikes, died instantly in the mishap. He has been identified as Gobnida Sahu, a resident of Ainlapali. 

Another person who was standing at the hotel also died in the mishap. 

Tension erupted in the area following the mishap. Angry locals launched a tyre-burning protest on the National Highway 57 protesting the deaths and seeking compensation.
