Tension flared up on the premises of Kanpur community health centre near Badamba Narasinghpur in Cuttack district on Friday midnight after a group of local people, who had come with a patient, allegedly attacked a doctor and some medical staff, apart from ransacking hospital property.

A police complaint was filed in this regard.

As per reports, some local residents along with a patient came to the Kanpur hospital at around 12.30 am. Before the doctor on duty could start the treatment of the patient, they were infuriated and vandalized a 102 ambulance and window panes of the hospital.

Following the incident, the doctor on duty Pratir Bag filed a complaint at the local police station. Speaking to media, Dr Pratir Bag, lamented, “They threateningly asked us why the patient is not being attended just after arriving at the hospital. One of them picked up a stand to attack me, but I caught hold of the stand. Then, they pushed me. I screamed following which they retreated. Later, they broke some of our instruments and the windshield of a 102 ambulance parked on the hospital premises.”

Hospital security guard Deepak Baral, said, “When they came at night, the patient was unconscious. After unlocking the gate, they took the patient in. I asked them to lay the patient on the bed and went to inform the doctor. However, they laid the patient on the floor and started abusing me.”

Acting on the complaint, police have started an investigation into the matter.
