Parents Association in Bhubaneswar is up in arms over the proposed closure of Unit 9 Girls’ High School in the capital city of Odisha.

The Girls’ High School was recently brought under the 5T initiative umbrella to transform it into a smart school.

As per the government decision, it has been proposed to merge the said Girls’ high school with the Unit 9 Boy’s High School in order to make it a co-educational institution.

Opposing the move, the parents association wrote to the School and Mass Education Minister and demanded a rollback of the decision.

The parents threatened to launch a hunger strike in front of the school gate and the Legislative Assembly if the government does not pay heed to their demands.

Following resentment, the Directorate of Secondary Education urged the District Education Officer of Khordha to furnish a detailed factual report along with their views so that further steps can be taken in this regard.

The Unit 9 Girls’ High School was established in 1967. Currently, it has 23 teachers for 400 girl students. The school had secured more than 90 percent result in the last Matriculation examination.
