Honouring its promise of increasing the procurement price of paddy to Rs 3,100 per quintal made in the poll manifesto, the BJP-led Odisha govt on Thursday announced that the farmers will start receiving paddy MSP of Rs 3,100 per quintal this Kharif season.

Informing about the development, Odisha Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said, “We had declared to pay Rs 3100 as paddy MSP. So, farmers will get it. The promised amount will be credited to their accounts within 48 hours of selling paddy. We have already issued directions in this regard and work has already been started accordingly.”

“We will start disbursing the money from this Kharif season. The procurement of paddy will be done perfectly, leaving no room for katni-chhatni,” he said.

“The Union Government’s hike of the MSP to Rs 2,300 has favoured us. We would have to pay Rs 917 more. Now, we have to pay Rs 800 more,” he added.
