Paddy mandi
Paddy procurement will begin from November 21 and it will start from the Bargarh district, known as the rice bowl of Odisha. It was decided on Monday at a ministerial-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at Lok Seva Bhawan.
After the meeting, while briefing media persons, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari said a limit has been set to buy 80 lakh tons of paddy.
“For the first time, the state government is going to give Rs 800 to farmers, in addition to the MSP to empower them financially. It is going to be historic. There will be designated officers at each mandi to keep a watch on the activities. He will also send details like how many farmers have come to the mandi and how much paddy arrived there to the Supply department through the district Collector, using a specifically developed portal system,” he informed.

It has also been decided in the meeting that the checking will be intensified to make the procurement process free from middlemen and stringent action will be taken in case of any violations.
As per reports, emphasis has been placed on making the procurement transparent and simple. Call centres with 30 seats have been opened this year. In the coming two or three days, guidelines meant for farmers will be sent through SMS.
