Ahead of the death anniversary of OTV journalist Arindam Das, the second Arindam Das Memorial Scholarship instituted in memory of the journalist was given away on Friday.  

The scholarship was awarded to Amlan Nanda, a final year BTech computer science student at the Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT). 

Amlan received the scholarship for the second consecutive year. 

After receiving the cheque, an elated Amlan said, “I want to thank the entire OTV team and Jagi Ma’am (OTV MD Jagi Mangat Panda) for providing this scholarship in memory of Arindam Sir. Due to some financial problems, I couldn’t pursue my BTech. But now I can complete the course with the help of the OTV team. I again thank the OTV team and Jagi Ma’am for providing this scholarship.”

Digital Business Head of OTV Network, Litisha Mangat Panda handed over the cheque to Amlan at OTV’s head office in Bhubaneswar. Among others, OTV news editor Radhamadhab Mishra, HR head, Lieutenant Colonel CK Jena, corporate affairs department head Manas Sahu, wife of Arindam Das Samiksha Behera, and other staffs were present during the event.  

Expressing his gratitude, Amlan’s father said, “I am thankful to Jagi Ma’am and the entire OTV team for providing Arindam Das Memorial Scholarship to my son for the last two years. I would like to say that by providing a scholarship to my child, OTV has given him a new life. Last year, he could pursue his BTech smoothly despite my financial problems.”

“Late Arindam Das worked as a chief reporter with OTV. He lost his life in a shocking incident while covering an elephant rescue operation. He was known for his helping nature. After the death of Das, OTV decided to institute a scholarship in his name and memory. Ahead of the second death anniversary of Arindam, the second Arindam Das Memorial Scholarship has been provided to Amlan Nanda, a final year BTech computer science student of Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT),” said OTV news editor, Radhamadhab Mishra. 

The second death anniversary of  Arindam Das falls on September 24, 2023. Two years have passed since Das lost his life while covering the rescue operation of an elephant stuck in the Mahanadi River at Mundali Barrage. The scholarship was instituted by OTV in memory of Das. 

Next year, a journalism student will be awarded the scholarship.
