The protest by Congress at Lower PMG Square in Bhubaneswar on Thursday took a violent turn leaving OTV journalist Pravat Bisoi injured. He was reportedly hit on the head by a chair thrown by protesting Congress workers while covering the demonstration.

The journalist sustained head injuries during the incident and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The incident occurred amidst escalating tensions as the protest turned chaotic, with party workers clashing with police and hurling chairs, stones, and bottles.

As many as 12 police officers also sustained injuries during the protest, sources said, adding that the mob also tried to set a vehicle on fire. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and concerns have been raised over the safety of journalists covering political protests. The incident highlights the increasing risks faced by media personnel while reporting on-ground events.

CM Inquries Health Condition

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi spoke to Bisoi over phone and inquried about his health condition.

DCP Meets Injured Journalist

Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena met Bisoi and injured police officers at the Capital Hospital and inquired about their health condition.

Action Against Protestors

“The protestors tried to set a vehicle on fire but the driver intervened. However, the vehicle was damaged in the process. The situation is normal now,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena.

Commenting on the development, As many as 15 police personnel and a journalist sustained injuries during the protest. The Congress workers assured us to stage a peaceful protest but they broke the law and attacked the police. Those who are involved will be arrested,” said Narasingha Bhola, Additional Commissioner of Police.
