OTV Exclusive: Kolkata rape-murder accused’s mother and sister demand capital punishment

As the entire country is still in shock and yet to come to terms with the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, the main accused Sanjoy Roy’s mother and sister have demanded capital punishment for him.

Speaking exclusively to OTV, Sanjoy’s mother said, “My heart aches to hear what he has done. No woman deserves such a heinous death. So, as a woman, I demand capital punishment for him.”

“Maybe things would have been different if his father was alive today. As a mother, I’m yet to come to terms if he has really done something like that. I cannot even say that he is being framed. Only he knows what happened that night. I haven’t even met him since that horrific night,” she added.

Keeping all her sisterly love aside, Sanjoy’s sister also reiterated capital punishment for him.

“At first, I could not even imagine that he could do something like this. Not just him, it is terrifying to even think that someone can do something like that which has happened to Abhaya. When I learnt that my brother was behind such heinous act, I was in utter shock. He is my brother, but we can feel what Abhaya’s parents must be going through right now, because I’m a mother myself,” said an emotional Sanjoy’s sister.

“Doctors are like God to us. We cannot go to God, so we go to doctors whenever we fall sick. I’m more terrified that my brother has done such thing to a ‘God’. If he has really done something like that, I demand the government to give him an exemplary punishment so that no one ever dares to rape any girl,” she added.

Earlier, Sanjoy’s mother-in-law had accused him of beating his ex-wife when she was three-month-pregnant and caused miscarriage. She demanded that Sanjoy must be ‘hanged’ for his crime.
