OTEL’s Rs 18,450 crore power plant to create 8100 job opportunities in Odisha

Orissa Thermal Energy Limited (OTEL) has proposed the establishment of a 2400 MW (3 x 800 MW) ultra-super critical coal-based thermal power plant in the Cuttack district of Odisha. The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 18,450 crore, is expected to significantly enhance the power generation capacity of the state while ensuring energy security and economic development.

The planned power plant will incorporate ultra-supercritical technology, which is known for its higher efficiency and reduced carbon emissions compared to conventional coal-based thermal power plants. The plant will be designed with state-of-the-art pollution control measures to minimize its environmental impact.

Environmental Considerations

Given the environmental concerns associated with coal-based power generation, OTEL has planned to incorporate advanced emission control technologies, including flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and electrostatic precipitators (ESP), to minimize air pollution. Water conservation measures and proper ash disposal systems will also be implemented to ensure environmental sustainability.
