Orissa High Court rejects Somalika Dash’ plea seeking stay on MLA Bijay Shankar Das’ marriage application

The Orissa High Court on Friday refused to entertain the petition filed by Somalika Dash, the rumoured girlfriend of BJD MLA Bijay Shankar Das.  

Dash had filed the petition seeking a stay on the application of marriage (with another woman) filed by the BJD MLA at the office of the sub-registrar, Cuttack.  The state’s apex court rejected the petition on the ground that the case is sub judice as the Cuttack district marriage registration officer is investigating the case. 

The Cuttack district marriage registration officer has summoned Somalika, legislator Das, and his fiancée. 

Notably, the MLA submitted the application on September 21 for registration of marriage with Pratyusha Nanda, a resident of Arunodaya Market area in Cuttack, at the office of the registrar of marriage, Cuttack. 

On October 7, Somalika submitted an objection at the same office. On October 17, she moved the Orissa High Court seeking a stay on the marriage registration.
