Orissa High Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the fake insurance motor accident claim cases in Keonjhar district.

Hearing a petition filed by ICICI Lombard General Insurance Co. Ltd, the Court directed that the cases are to be handed over to the CBI for investigation.

As per reports, after a thorough scrutiny of the claims conducted by the insurance company, it was revealed that a driver identified as Keshaba Chandra Mahanta has claimed five insurance claims at Keonjhar District Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal.

It was also revealed that all the accidents have occurred within a span of one year. Moreover, the driving license of the accused driver Mohanta was still valid instead of being cancelled.

Then the company moved High Court. Hearing the petition, the Court said that considering the scale, magnitude, and complexity of the crime, the State police are not in a position to carry out a fair and truthful investigation.

“The CBI is well equipped with the requisite skill to unearth the conspiracy and money-trailing aspects of the crime,” the Court said.
