Opposition BJD, Congress violating dignity of Assembly: Odisha BJP chief
BJP state president Manmohan Samal on Thursday came down heavily on the Congress and the BJD while accusing both the parties of violating the dignity of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Addressing the media in Bhubaneswar, he expressed disappointment over the recent disruptions in the State Legislative Assembly, stating that such behavior was not expected from a responsible Opposition.
He condemned the manner in which the Speaker was treated, emphasising that the Opposition should engage in constructive criticism instead of resorting to disorderly conduct. He accused the Opposition of ‘lacking a governance mindset and instead focusing on propaganda and shortcut politics’.
Samal further alleged that the opposition parties are still struggling to move past their past electoral losses and the BJD is behaving as if they are still in power. He urged them to introspect, engage in meaningful discussions, and work for the welfare of Odisha instead of opposing the government without valid reasons.
Bringing up past controversies, he reminded the public of incidents that had tarnished Odisha’s political history. He stated that the BJP had extended full cooperation when the opposition was in power and called upon them to do the same for the state's progress.

“The recent incidents in the Odisha Assembly have tarnished the sanctity of the House. The way the Opposition behaves with the Speaker is not acceptable. No one is opposing the Opposition from constructive criticism. No one has forgotten the Biluakhai river, Anjana Mishra and Chabi Rani cases. They should introspect so that it is not repeated in the future,” Samal said.
No comments from the BJD or the Congress could be obtained over Samal’s remark.
