It seems like no lesson has been drawn from the past as precious lives continue to be lost in open drains the millennium city of Cuttack. This time, a sanitary staff died after falling into an open drain at Barapathar area near Buxi Bazar in the city. The deceased has been identified as P. Narasingha.

As per initial reports, some senior JICA employees had called Narasingha for some work, assuring payment of some wages. Sources said that the sanitary worker died while working at the ongoing box-drain project in the city. Two persons were working at the spot when the incident occurred.

This is second incident of casualty to be reported involving open drain in the city in the past three days. A few days ago, a 21-year-old lost his life after falling into an open drain at Jhola Sahi in Cuttack. The deceased was later identified as Rahul from Rajasthan.

Rahul had come to Cuttack to meet his relatives but died after falling into the drain. He was on his way to a teashop when the unfortunate incident occurred.
