One lakh diyas to light up this Odisha village on Ram Navami

As the auspicious festival of Ram Navami approaches, a small village named Ayodhya under Nilagiri block in Odisha's Balasore district is preparing for a divine celebration steeped in mythology and devotion.

According to sources, the villagers are set to light one lakh earthen lamps (diyas) on the night of Ram Navami, transforming the entire area into a radiant spiritual haven.

Ayodhya Village And Its Ramayan Connection

The village holds a deep-rooted belief that Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman once passed through and stayed here briefly during their exile. In reverence to this legend, the village was named Ayodhya, after Lord Ram's birthplace. Each year, Ram Navami is celebrated here not just as a festival, but as a reenactment of a sacred past.

This year, the villagers have decorated the entire area to welcome Ram and Sita in child form, placing them on a specially crafted swing (doli) for public darshan. Women, children, and devotees from nearby villages are actively participating in the preparations.

The lighting of one lakh diyas is not only an expression of devotion but also a tribute to the spiritual heritage of the land. As dusk falls, the glowing lamps will symbolize the victory of light over darkness and the eternal presence of Ram in the hearts of his devotees.

This grand celebration stands as a unique blend of faith, folklore, and festivity, making Ayodhya village a spiritual destination on this sacred occasion.

What Villagers Say

“We are very excited to welcome Ram Lala on Ram Navami.  The arrangements have reached final stage while we will be lighting up over 1 lakh diyas to mark the occasion,” said a villager.

“We have dedicated the day for Lord Ram. Though the preparations have began a month ago, it has reached final stage now. Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman once passed through and stayed in our village briefly during their exile,” another villager said.
