In a tragic mishap, one person was killed and six others sustained critical injuries after an ambulance carrying them hit a truck on National Highway 60 under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district on Tuesday morning.

As per initial reports, the ambulance carrying patients was en route to neighbouring West Bengal from AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. On the way, the driver of the ambulance lost control over the wheels and hit the truck from the rear near Khusi Praza. 

One among the seven occupants of the ambulance died on the spot. The condition of six others was also stated to be critical. The collision was so severe that the ambulance was badly mangled.

Jaleswar police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and admitted the injured to Gopikishan Bhattar Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jaleswar. 

An investigation into the matter is underway.
