Drowning
One fisherman drowned to death after the boat they were sailing in capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Balasore early on Sunday morning. Another fisherman is also missing in the boat capsize incident.
As per reports, seven fishermen on a boat had set out from Kashaphala sea-mouth area in Balasore to catch fish in the sea on Saturday night.
During their return to the shore, the boat capsized in the sea under the strong influence of strong winds and tidal waves.
While one fisherman drowned to death, another is still missing. Five other fishermen were rescued by another boat and brought back to the shore safely. Later, they were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Narrating the incident, a survivor said, “We left the shore at 2 am last night. We were happy because fishing activity was allowed after a ban of two months. During return, the boat overturned because of high tides. We all jumped out of the boat except for one person who got drowned. A boat coming behind us rescued us.”
Following a ban for nearly two months, fishing activities in the area resumed after permission from the forest department on June 14.
