One person was killed and another critically injured after their bike hit a pole due to poor visibility caused by dense fog at Khandiagiri village of Pipili in Puri district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The identities of the two are yet to be ascertained.

According to sources, the duo was riding a bike when they crashed into a pole along the road due to dense fog. It was suspected that they were drunk and riding the bike at a high speed.

The impact of the crash was so severe that the locals heard the loud noise and came out of their houses. On being informed, the fire services team reached the spot and found one person on the spot.

He was initially rushed to the Pipili Hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.

This morning, the locals found another body lying on the roadside. It is presumed that he was on the bike with the victim.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.

It can be noted that a layer of dense fog was witnessed on Wednesday morning over different parts of Odisha including Bhubaneswar. The thick fog lowered the visibility and affected vehicular movement.

The visibility in the capital city was reduced to below 100 metres.

Likewise, a thick layer of fog has also covered Puri district. Due to the foggy weather, Puri Jagannath Temple’s Patitapaban Bana was not visible. The devotees who came to offer their prayers and take blessings of the ‘Holy Trinity’ were disappointed as the ‘Patitapaban Bana’ was not visible due to the thick fog.

As per the IMD predictions, there will be no significant changes in the weather for the next three days. Therefore, the temperature might fall by 2 to 3 degree Celsius.
