Five days after cash over Rs 4 lakh was snatched away by two bike-borne miscreants from a group of women in Balichandrapur of Jajpur, police cracked the case and arrested an accused on Tuesday. Some others involved in the crime will be nabbed soon, said police.

As per reports, women of a Self-help Group (SHG) in the Charinagala area withdrew cash worth Rs 4 lakh from a bank on January 4. On their way back home, when they reached Balichandrapur bazaar, unidentified persons came on a bike and snatched away the bag containing the cash. 

The women filed a complaint at the Balichandrapur Police Station in this regard.

Police started an investigation into the case and examined the CCTV footage in the area. One of the accused was identified from the CCTV visuals, leading to his arrest on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Ahula Santosh, a resident of Ganjam district.  

Balichandrapur IIC, Pramodini Sahu said, “Two women had withdrawn Rs 4.69 lakh from a bank in Balichandrapur. Two persons came on a bike and snatched away the cash. During the investigation, we checked the CCTV footage in the area. One accused was identified as Ahula Santosh.”

She added that following an instruction from the SP, a team was formed and raided some areas. Police also recovered Rs 4 lakh from his possession, she added.
