Workers protest at OMFED plant in Cuttack, Odisha

Employees of the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) plant at Arilo in Naraj area, near Cuttack, have launched a boycott-work protest, demanding fulfillment of a three-point charter of demands. The protest has been led and intensified by the Utkal OMFED Workers Union.

The agitating workers have warned that the protest will continue indefinitely unless their demands are addressed by the authorities.

Protest Gains Momentum Over Long-Standing Issues

According to reports, the workers are protesting to press for three key demands: permanent employment for existing workers, equal pay for equal work, and inclusion under semi-skilled and skilled labour categories. They claim that these long-standing issues have been ignored despite repeated assurances.

The union has stated that it will not withdraw its agitation unless concrete action is taken by OMFED management. Workers raised slogans and staged demonstrations inside the plant premises, disrupting the regular functioning of operations.

Union Warns of Indefinite Agitation

Speaking on behalf of the protestors, the union said the movement will persist until all demands are fulfilled. They criticised the OMFED authorities for their alleged apathy and failure to implement fair labour practices.

As the agitation continues, production and milk processing activities at the Arilo plant remain disrupted. The workers have urged the state authorities to intervene and ensure a resolution that upholds the rights of the employees.

With no response yet from the management, tension continues to mount within the plant premises as workers remain firm on their stance.
