The official death toll in sunstroke in Odisha has spiked to 30. Four more sunstroke deaths were confirmed by the State officials on Monday, taking the total toll to 30 so far.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), six alleged sunstroke death cases were reported by the Collectors in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, four of such cases were confirmed as sunstroke deaths. 
As many as 12 cases pending with the districts were not confirmed as sunstroke deaths. 

This summer, the Collectors received reports of 147 deaths due to alleged sunstroke while 50 cases have been investigated. While 30 cases have been confirmed as sunstroke deaths, 20 deaths were not due to sunstroke, official sources said. As of now, 97 cases are pending with the Collectors for inquiry, it was said.

It was learned that most of the cases were reported from Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts.
