Odisha’s classical Odissi dance, which has a unique identity across the globe, found a special mention in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 115th episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.

PM Modi mentioned about Odissi dance by giving examples how Indian art, culture and classical dance are gaining popularity across the globe and foreigners are getting attracted towards those.

“In Peru, Erlinda Garcia and Maria Valdes are popularising Bharatanatyam and Odissi dance, respectively, showing how Indian classical dance is creating waves of popularity in South America,” said PM Modi.

“Wherever there is art, there is India. Wherever there is culture, there is India,” PM Modi remarked, inviting people to share cultural initiatives using the hashtag #CulturalBridges, which he said would be a regular feature in future episodes of Mann Ki Baat.

Earlier in the 112th episode of the popular programme, PM Modi had also mentioned about Odisha’s Sambalpuri saree which has already created a unique identity worldwide for its distinct handloom designs.
