Victim Rajendra showing his order details
A youth moved the consumer court against a major e-commerce company over a ‘not received delivery’. The legal battle was necessitated as the company’s website showed that the ordered product had already been delivered to the customer.
The incident was reported from Santaragadia locality under Nilagiri police limits of Balasore district.
According to sources, Rajendra Mohanty, a resident of Santaragadia, had ordered an electric scooter online, financing his purchase with a loan of Rs 25,000 through his finance card. However, on the day of the scheduled delivery, the website incorrectly marked the scooter as delivered, despite Rajendra not having received the item, or any notification regarding its dispatch, the youth complained.
After encountering unhelpful responses from the company’s customer service, Rajendra turned to the consumer court to seek resolution for this issue. This incident underscores the need for caution and the importance of knowing one's rights as a consumer.
“I had placed the order on December 7 and was very happy that the product was to be delivered within 24 hours. However, on December 8,
I got a message on my mobile phone reading ‘the e-scooter has been delivered’. I was astonished and immediately contacted the company’s customer service. I was told the same thing,” the victim stated.
“I have made an advance payment of Rs 25,000 against my online order. I availed a loan from a finance company to purchase the scooter,” the victim youth said.
“Finding no other way out, I lodged a complaint seeking redressal,” Rajendra added.
Notably, consumers across the country are encouraged to remain vigilant while shopping online due to reported discrepancies in delivery statuses on several e-commerce platforms, which illustrate this growing concern.
No comments were received from the e-commerce company concerned, by the time when this report was filed.
