Odisha youth performing father's last rites dies after tree branch falls on him

A pall of gloom descended on Kamta village under Koraput’s Borigumma block when a youth died after a tree branch fell on him at his father’s funeral on Wednesday morning.

Both the deceased have been identified as Laxman Mondal and his son Benudhar Mondal.

As per reports, Benudhar and his family had taken the body of his father Laxman to the funeral ground following his death due to illness. However, during the last rites, a big branch of a tree fell on Benudhar’s head owing to incessant rains from last night.

family of Benudhar rushed him to the nearest hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

“The weather was bad here since the last night due to the cyclone in Andhra Pradesh. We were preparing for the last rites when a tree branch fell on Benudhar’s head injuring him seriously. We brought him to Borigumma hospital where the doctors declared him dead. We all are very sad because of this,” said a relative of Laxman, Baikuntha Mondal.

As per the latest reports, the last rites of Laxman remained halted after the mishap with his son Benudhar. The family said they will cremate both after the body of Benudhar is released from the mortuary.
