In a record feat, a youth named Ashok Kumar Bhoi from Tumgaon village in Bargarh district made his way into the India Book of Records for the most time both ears can be wiggled simultaneously.

Bhoi successfully wiggled his ears 370 times in just 5 minutes and 1 second to earn this feat, breaking the previous record of a maximum of 137 ear wiggles. Moreover, after putting Odisha on the Indian record books, he is now aiming to clinch the world record for India by securing a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

It is worth mentioning that ear-wiggling is a vestigial feature, meaning it's an ability that is maintained even though it no longer serves its original purpose. Moreover, in the process of human evolution most have lost this ability but some people, like Bhoi, can still wiggle their ears.

“I am immensely proud of this achievement. The number of times that I am able to wiggle my ears is significantly higher than what anyone else has managed to do in India or even around the world. I am hopeful to represent the nation in the ear-wiggling world marathon,” stated Bhoi.

He, however, stated that it is incredibly difficult to be able to wiggle both ears at a time. According to him, repeated ear wiggling requires severe dedication, practice, and concentration. Further, he has even learnt how to hold his breath for long durations in order to ensure maximum focus.

“Earlier I was hardly able to wiggle my ears for a prolonged period. The brain needs to be in complete balance and after years of practice I learnt how to master this ability,” added Bhoi.
