In an unfortunate incident, a woman set herself on fire in front of Mahanga police station in Cuttack district on Friday.
The woman was initially admitted to Salipur Community Health Centre in a critical condition. Later, she was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition deteriorated.
According to doctors, the woman has suffered around 54 per cent burn injuries and she is undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
“The patient has suffered 54 per cent burn injuries. Mostly, she has suffered burn injuries on her hands and some parts of her body. Her condition is critical. After initial treatment, we have referred her to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack,” said Dr Richa.
As per reports, Mahanga police had nabbed the woman's husband in a theft case on Thursday. Subsequently, the woman pleaded before the police by saying that her husband was innocent. However, the police didn’t pay any attention to her plea.
As a result, the woman got frustrated and tried to commit suicide. She set herself ablaze in front of the police station by pouring kerosene on her. Somehow, Mahanga police managed to rescue her and rushed her to the hospital.
In response to the development, police said an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
“Investigation into the incident is currently underway. More information can be divulged after the completion of the investigation,” said Salipur IIC BR Mallick.
