Odisha woman jumps into river with 2-year-old son; dead bodies recovered

In a tragic incident, a woman reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Bhargavi river with her two-year-old son in the Hariharpur area under the Pipili block of Puri district on Wednesday.

The woman has been identified as Ipsita Behera, a resident of the Pipili area.

As per reports, the woman came with her two-year-old son in an auto-rickshaw and jumped into the river from a bridge in the morning.

Following the development, local people informed Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire Services personnel immediately. After a long search, the bodies of the woman and her son were found.

As per local residents, the woman was residing in Maharashtra for the last four years with her brother-in-law. She came to the village a month back.

However, the exact reason why the woman took such a drastic step could not be ascertained immediately.

“The bodies have been sent for medical tests. No case has been registered yet as the family is currently under huge mental pressure,” said Pipili SI, Mamata Biswal.
