Odisha woman attempts suicide after court acquits boyfriend of rape charges
In an unusual turn of events, a woman who had accused her boyfriend of ‘rape’, attempted suicide after the court acquitted him of all her charges. She came out of the court after the hearing and consumed Paracetamol tablets, reports said.
The bizarre incident occurred at the premises of the Court of District & Sessions Judge, Sundargarh.
According to sources, the woman had gone to jail on the charges of killing her husband. Out on bail, she was in a relationship with a man and wanted to marry him. However, due to unknown reasons, their relationship grew sour following which she accused him of rape and lodged a complaint against him.
After hearing the case, the court finally acquitted her alleged boyfriend of all the charges. Infuriated, the woman came out of the court and took the drastic step, it was learnt.
“When she learnt that the court had acquitted the person, she came out and tried to end her life by consuming the Paracetamol tablets. She was immediately rushed to the local hospital. Her condition is stable now,” informed senior advocate Kamal Sen.
“It is hard to keep a check on people taking different things to the court. There is no detector for detection, particularly in District Courts. We need detectors or at least some police security who would check people before their entry to the courts,” he added.
