Odisha weather update: Maximum temperature to rise by 3 to 5 degree C; thunderstorms likely

The IMD forecasts rising temperatures in Odisha, predicting a 3-5°C increase. Yellow warnings for heatwave and thunderstorms have been issued.

Get ready for hot and humid conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted a further a rise in maximum temperature in different parts of Odisha. 

As per the IMD’s forecast, the maximum temperature (day temperature) is very likely to rise by 3 - 5°C during next 4-5 days and no major change thereafter over the districts of Odisha.

The IMD has also issued a yellow warning for heat wave along with hot and humid conditions in different pockets of the state.

Day 1 (Valid upto  0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Hot and Humid Conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 11.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada.  

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, Nuapada.
Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Boudh, Sundargarh.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 12.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 13.05.2025)

Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati. 
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of  Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Kalahandi.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 13.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 14.05.2025)
Yellow Warning: Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of  Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Boudh, Sundargarh, Kalahandi. 
Hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of  Balasore, Bhadrak,  Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati ,Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal.
