Odisha Vigilance nabs Khandapada NAC executive officer while accepting bribe

Niranjan Dhal, Khandapada NAC executive officer, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance for taking a Rs 20,000 bribe. The complaint lodged by contractor Jyotiranjan led to the arrest. Raids continue at his office and residence.

An executive Officer of Khandapada Notified Area Council (NAC), Niranjan Dhal, was caught by Odisha Vigilance while taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 to pass a bill. According to the allegation, four bills submitted by contractor Jyotiranjan were pending. Niranjan had allegedly warned that the bills would not be processed unless the bribe was paid.

Following the complaint filed by the contractor with vigilance authorities, Niranjan was caught in the act of taking the bribe. The vigilance team carried out searches at the Khandapada NAC office and at the government residence of the Executive Officer. 

As per the latest reports, search and raid operations are still underway.

ABDO Arrested After Unearthing Assets Worth Over Rs 70 Lakh

In a separate incident, Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested an Additional Block Development Officer (ABDO), a day after uncovering disproportionate assets including a shopping complex, five land plots and deposits totalling Rs 70 lakh, an official said.

Acting on suspicions that the officer had acquired wealth beyond his known sources of income, vigilance teams conducted raids across seven locations in the districts of Jajpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak and Khurda. During the raids, the officials unearthed four multi-storey buildings, including a shopping complex, one flat, five high-value land plots, 800 grams of gold, fixed and savings deposits worth Rs 70 lakh, and Rs 1.85 lakh in cash.

Two two-wheelers and household articles worth over Rs 3.27 lakh were also seized. Upon completing the detailed search and inventory, the officer was found to possess assets approximately 205 per cent above his known income. A case has been registered against him at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station, and he has been formally arrested, the official confirmed.
