Odisha vigilance arrests asst soil conservation officer after seizing Rs 11L cash

The Odisha vigilance officials on Monday arrested Kishor Chandra Nayak, the assistant soil conservation officer, in Rayagada district on the charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Nayak was arrested a day after Rs 11.34 lakh cash was seized from his possession. 

According to sources, Nayak was on his way to his rented house at Rayagada with a bag carrying cash of over Rs 5 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, a team of vigilance officials intercepted him mid-way and recovered the cash from him.  

When interrogated, he failed to give a satisfactory answer following which the officials recovered the cash from his possession and made the seizure.

Soon after his interception, the officials conducted simultaneous raids at his office and house located near Mangala Mandir, Rayagada and recovered cash of Rs 6.30 lakh, taking the total cash seizure to Rs 11.34 lakh.

The following places linked to Nayak have been raided: 

1. His rented residential house located near Mangala Mandir, Rayagada

2. His wife’s residence at Patrapada Kishore Vihar, Lane-2 PS-Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar

3. Parental house located at Mantriguda, Nabarangpur
