The horrific train mishap in Odisha that killed at least 238 people and left around 900 injured is said to be one of the deadliest train accidents in the history of India. Meanwhile, one of the survivors took to Twitter to share his harrowing experience.
Taking to Twitter Anubhav Das, who was travelling in Coromandel Express from Howrah to Chennai wrote, “I am extremely thankful to have escaped unscathed. It probably is the biggest train accident related incident. Thread of how the incident unfolded.”
According to Das, “Three trains were involved in the accident - Coromandel Express 12841, Yesvantpur - Howrah SF and a goods train. Initial impressions are that the Coromandel express derailed and collided with the Goods train (parked on the loop track on the side).”

In his Tweet, Das further wrote, “Subsequently the derailed coaches hit the oncoming Yesvantpur express on the nearby track. 3 general coaches of Yesvantpur Express are completely damaged and derailed. Almost 13 coaches of Coromandel Express including General, Sleeper, AC 3 tier, and AC 2 tier are completely damaged.”
“Not to exaggerate but I have myself witnessed more than 200-250 deaths. Families crushed away, limbless bodies and a bloodbath on the train tracks. It was a sight that I will never forget. God help the families. My condolences,” he added.
On the other hand, a few locals alleged that the death toll could be over 1000 and the Odisha government was hiding it.
“We are sure more than 1000 people have been killed in the train mishap. The Railways Department is to be blamed for such a major tragedy. They were sleeping,” claimed a local present at the spot.
Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the spot on Saturday and took stock of the rescue operation. General Manager, South Eastern Railway and other principal officers are also at the site.
