In a move to speed up infrastructure development, the Odisha government has decided to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the Public Works Department (PWD). The state plans to make the entire tender management system AI-driven and fully online, aiming to eliminate delays and increase efficiency.

Informing the media, Public Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the current manual bid evaluation process, which takes around two to two-and-a-half months, will now be completed within just one week using AI. This will significantly reduce the time required to begin project execution and help ensure the timely completion of infrastructure projects.

To facilitate this transition, steps are being taken to launch an online application platform. A dedicated research team is also working with the department to develop and implement AI-based systems.

The minister expressed confidence that this technological intervention will curb delays, bring transparency, and improve overall project management. With the use of AI, Odisha aims to set a new benchmark in governance and public service delivery.

“The evaluation process of tenders is a critical task that is currently done manually. It has now been decided that AI-based software will be used to monitor and manage this process. This will help reduce the time required from two to two-and-a-half months to just one week, thereby accelerating the commencement of projects,” Harichandan said.
