The National Education Policy (NEP) is set to be rolled out at schools across Odisha from the forthcoming academic year, marking a significant shift in the State’s educational landscape, the School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Nityananda Gond said on Thursday.

The S&ME Minister hailed the policy as a historic development that will notably simplify the educational ecosystem in the State.

With the introduction of NEP, the State government anticipates eliminating dropouts and enhancing educational standards.

Complementary to this initiative, the Shahid Madho Singh Haath Kharcha Scheme was previously launched, aiming to bring further improvements to the education system, as articulated by the Minister.

Before fully implementing the NEP, a workshop is scheduled to be held from January 21 to 23. This workshop is intended to delve into the details of the new policy and to prepare the stakeholders for its effective implementation.

“Adarsh Prathamika Vidyalayas (primary schools) will be set up in every panchayat. We are attaching importance to digital education in this. Especially, we are focusing on vocational training at the school level,” the S&ME Minister said to mediapersons.

“Even we are promoting our language, culture, and art. Hence, the implementation of NEP will help reduce school dropouts to an extent of zero and help provide quality education to schoolchildren,” the S&ME Minister expressed.

Addressing that shortage of teachers remains a priority alongside the NEP implementation, as the Government aims to fill existing vacancies. The Minister earlier stated, “Measures will be taken to fill the vacancies to ensure successful implementation of the policy.”
