Basanta Kumar Rana, in-charge headmaster of Kandel Government Primary School under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district, has been nominated for the prestigious National Teacher Award this year.

Known for his engaging teaching style that wins the hearts of young students, Rana has become one of the most beloved teachers in the region. With a teaching career spanning 30 years, he has served in various areas, imparting education to countless children.

Significantly, he has played a key role in advancing education in tribal-dominated regions, contributing immensely to the development of education in remote areas.

"I am very happy with the award. This award is not only for me but also for the little children of the school, my colleagues, the villagers, the higher authorities, and our BEO Madam Gayatri Devi, who inspired me all the time. After hearing the news about the award today, I am very happy," said Basanta Kumar Rana.

"After starting my teaching career, I have worked in the Malkangiri district for 30 years. I have gained valuable experience by working in seven schools of the district. I have learnt a lot from here. My first school was at Orgel, which is a remote area. I have also worked in Burlagada and Jadaamba," he added.

"Our teacher teaches us very well. Whenever we remain at home, our teacher even reaches us there," said a student.

"Our teacher teaches us affectionately. His teaching method is very good," said another student.
