Odisha teacher kidnapped for ransom rescued after 36 hours, 4 held

Rabindra Nath Singh, a teacher from Karanjia, Mayurbhanj, was abducted at gunpoint on February 10 near NH-220. The kidnappers demanded Rs 15 lakh ransom. After 36 hours, Odisha Police rescued him from Talcher, arresting four suspects. Investigations continue.

A kidnapping incident was reported from Karanjia, Mayurbhanj district where a teacher was abducted at gunpoint. The incident took place on February 10, 2025. The victim, identified as Rabindra Nath Singh was abducted by six miscreants near NH-220 at Kuanripoli under Karanjia Police limits.

The kidnappers forcibly pushed Singh into a vehicle and demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh for his release, reportedly. Singh, who was taken by the abductors, was held captive for over 36 hours.

Upon receiving a complaint, the Karanjia police immediately launched a search operation. Three teams were formed to track down the criminals. The police investigation led them to Talcher, where four individuals involved in the crime were arrested. Singh was rescued from their custody during the operation.

Sharing his horror of being kidnapped, the victim, Rabindra Nath Singh said, “On 10th Feb, while I was on my way back from school, the kidnappers forcibly pushed me inside the car and drove away. They have physically assaulted me to a great extent and hit me like an animal. They did not show me any mercy and kept on beating me up. I am bruised all over my body.”

“They wanted a ransom for releasing me. They had demanded around Rs 15-20 Lakh to let me go,” he added further.

The police have assured that they are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who are still at large. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining the case from various angles to uncover more details on the crime and the remaining individuals involved.

Rairangpur Additional SP, Jadunath Jena said, “As per the complaint filed in the FIR, it has been stated that the ransom was set at an amount of Rs 15 Lakh. This was also established during the primary investigation that the motive behind the kidnapping was money. However, we are also investigating into all angles to the case. The investigation is ongoing and we are looking into all the possibilities coming up in our investigation.”
