In yet another instance that speaks volumes of gender discrimination, a baby girl was allegedly left to die under the wheels of a bus at Champua bus stand in Keonjhar district. The baby girl, reported to be around 6 months old, was rescued after the helper of the bus spotted her stuffed in a bag near the wheels of the bus.

The helper of the bus was reportedly cleaning and checking the bus when he spotted the baby girl at around 9 pm on Sunday night.

“Someone abandoned the baby in the bag near the bus. We do not know whether it was a lady or a male person who left the baby here. The helper spotted the infant and alerted the locals who then informed police about the incident,” said a local resident, Biswambar Sahu.

It is yet to be ascertained who abandoned the baby girl at the bus stand under such circumstances. On getting information, police reached the spot and admitted her to Champua Sub-Divisional Hospital. An investigation in connection with the incident is underway. The condition of the baby girl is stable after primary treatment, said the doctor at the hospital.

“The baby was hungry and appeared to be dehydrated. The baby is around 6 months old and her condition is now stable after necessary treatment,” said Dr. B.K. Das.
