Loans to the tune of Rs 1.70 lakh which were sanctioned to two self-help groups were allegedly misappropriated in Aul block of Kendrapara district. The allegations were brought by Maa Laxmi Thakurani SHG and Balunkeswar SHG in Tunga panchayat on Thursday.
The members of the two SHGs claimed that the secretary of the SHG Mahasangh Anita Swain and her in-law Aparna Swain took away the fund without the knowledge of the SHG members three years ago.

After the SHG members came to know about the fund embezzlement, they inquired about the two women who admitted their wrongdoing and assured the members to return the amount. However, the two women delayed paying back the money.
What complainants say
Upset, the SHG members filed a complaint at the local police station in this regard. Jharna Geru of Balunkeswar SHG, after filing the complaint said, "Anita Swain has taken away the money. Now, the block administration has served a notice to pay back the loan. We want justice.”
Rashmita Senapati, another complainant, said, "In 2022, we came to know that Anita Swain has taken away Rs 90,000.”
However, comments from Anita Swain couldn't be obtained.
