Odisha school wall collapses just two years after construction
A major accident was narrowly averted at Bijayalaxmi Narayanpur Binoba High School in the Digapahandi block of Ganjam district after the school boundary wall collapsed following light rainfall. Fortunately, no students were injured in the incident, but it has triggered serious safety concerns among parents and locals.
According to sources, the boundary wall, which was constructed barely two years ago, crumbled during a brief spell of rain, exposing poor construction quality. Witnesses say the collapse could have caused severe injuries if students had been near the wall at the time.
Parents and community members have also alleged waterlogging and drainage issues inside the school premises. Rainwater reportedly entered several classrooms, leaving the floors submerged and making it difficult for classes to continue.
The incident has sparked widespread anger among guardians, who are demanding an inquiry into the construction and immediate action against those responsible. “If this is the condition after just two years, what guarantee do we have about the safety of our children?” questioned a concerned parent.
Local education officials have assured that the matter will be investigated and necessary steps will be taken to repair the boundary wall and improve drainage facilities.
