Andhra Officials In Kotia
The long-standing territorial dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh has once again surfaced after officials from the neighbouring state reportedly entered Kotia panchayat and began updating the Aadhaar details of local residents. This development has raised serious concerns about Andhra Pradesh’s continued efforts to assert control over the border villages.
According to sources, officials from Andhra Pradesh visited Neredivalsa village on Friday, where they gathered pension beneficiaries, students, and differently-abled individuals to update their Know Your Customer (KYC) details.
Reports suggest that Andhra authorities assured these individuals of various welfare benefits, including annual financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for students and pensions for eligible beneficiaries. Additionally, promises were made regarding access to healthcare services under Andhra Pradesh government’s schemes.
This is not the first time that Andhra Pradesh has made attempts to influence the Kotia residents. Recently, political representatives from Andhra Pradesh allegedly attempted to halt Odisha's ongoing infrastructure projects in the region. They reportedly tried to disrupt the construction of an electricity substation being developed by the Odisha government. Their objections to Odisha’s electrification initiatives highlight a continued effort to exert control over the disputed territory.
Despite these developments, there has been no official response from the local Odisha administration regarding Andhra’s latest intrusion. The unauthorized entry of Andhra officials and their Aadhaar updating activities have sparked concerns about Odisha’s administrative presence in Kotia.
The actions of Andhra Pradesh in Kotia reflect a systematic effort to win over local residents by offering various government benefits. This strategic push raises questions about the ongoing dispute and the need for stronger measures to safeguard Odisha’s territorial claims.
