Odisha’s Hirakud dam to release season’s first flood water on July 28

Hikrakud dam will release season’s first floodwater on July 28, informed senior officials on Thursday. The gates of Hirakud will be opened at 9 am on Sunday.

Official source said there has been a substantial rise in the rainfall activities in the upper catchment areas of Hirakud. Chhattisgarh received heavy rainfall activities in the past 24 hours. This has led to rise in the inflow of water into Hirakud dam.

At present, there is an inflow of 2 lakh cusecs into Hirakud dam. As the inflow is likely to rise further, the authorities have decided to release excess floodwater from Hirakud dam as its water level is likely to reach 615 ft by July 28.
