It never rains but pours. The saying goes true for a family which lost its three members in quick succession in Guamal Panchayat under Tihidi block in Bhadrak district on Friday.

According to a report, one Gopabandhu Panigrahi of Guamal Panchayat had lost his two sons on a single day. While the family was yet to come to terms with the tragedy, another misfortune visited the family in the form of his daughter-in-law’s death.

The tragic-stricken family was on Friday preparing for the rituals associated with the death of two members. A tent was put up near the house. Friends and relatives were busy with different assignments. Villagers were invited to partake in the mass feast. Food items were also being cooked.

Just then Gopabandhu’s second daughter-in-law named Bharati came out of the house to dump garbage. As she stepped out, a speeding bike hit her causing her death on the spot.

While the turn of events left the family speechless, a pall of gloom descended on the entire village. The family distributed the food items cooked for the feast among ashram inmates.

“As we were preparing for the rituals associated with 12th day today, my mother got killed in a road accident. She stepped out of the house to dump garbage when a bike coming at top speed hit her, leading to her on the spot death. The food items cooked for the feast were donated to an ashram,” said Sangram Panigrahi, the deceased’s son.

“Two brothers had died on the same day. Today was their 12th day. They had invited around 1000 villagers to the mass feast and food items had also been prepared. But, their sister-in-law was killed in a road mishap,” said Pradeep Panda, a Guamal resident.
